The Study Abroad programme is a fee-paying programme and runs for a semester or a full academic year. Most participants in the Birmingham Study Abroad programme transfer their Birmingham credits to their home university.

The Birmingham Study Abroad programme (without English) is designed for students who are native speakers of English, or who are already very proficient in the English language.

The Birmingham Study Abroad programme (with English) combines an academic component with language tuition, and offers an excellent opportunity for non-native speakers to improve their English language skills.  Students from Japan, Russia and Mexico have participated in this programme.
